Choice Not to Drink |

Many people have made a decision to drink alcohol, even before the legal
drinking age, at twenty one years old. Most Americans drink alcohol at
least occasionally. How could you not? There are alcohol advertisements
everywhere and everyone drinks, so why not you? Some people, like me,
have decided not to drink at all. Trust me; it isn’t an easy decision
to make, especially with a lot of peer pressure. I didn’t just wake
up one day and say, “Hey, I don’t think I’ll ever drink.”
It was a process coupled with a few experiences, including my uncle and
my trip to Mexico. Just as there are consequences
for drinking, consequences for not drinking
exist as well. You may be thinking, “If you’ve never tried
it, how can you say it’s bad?” Well, really, I may have implied
that, but I never actually said it. This hypertext was not made as a means
to sway you from drinking. I just want to share my reasons and experiences
that shaped my perspective so that you might better understand people
who make decisions not to drink or maybe have a drink once in a blue moon.
It’s not like I haven’t drank alcohol before. I’ve drank
wine at communion (I know this doesn’t really count), I had three
sips of red wine on my 21st birthday, and
I've tried sips of other alcoholic beverages. |
